The EU General Court has denied the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine the ability to register the trademark "Russian warship, go f*** yourself".
This is mentioned in the court's ruling.
It is noted that the SBGS intended to create the corresponding trademark in English and Russian within the European Union. However, the court ruled that the well-known phrase from the Ukrainian border guard has become a widely used political slogan and, therefore, cannot be registered as a trademark.
The ruling also states that such a trademark would be unable to fulfill its functions, as it would signify a political message rather than the origin of goods.
Note. The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine submitted an application to register the trademark with the famous quote in 2022 for the distribution of goods, including printed products, clothing, keychains, and more. The European Intellectual Property Office rejected the registration at the end of 2023.
Background. Earlier, Mind reported that Ukraine had adapted trademark registration rules to European requirements. The corresponding order came into effect on September 18, as announced by the Ministry of Economy.
