The elected President of the United States, Donald Trump, is expected to appoint a special representative for Ukraine shortly to negotiate an end to the war.
Source. This was reported by Fox News, citing several informed sources.
"You will see a high-ranking special envoy, a person of great authority, who will be tasked with finding a solution and achieving a peace agreement. This will happen soon," one of the channel's informants revealed.
However, the work of the special envoy will be unpaid. From 2017 to 2019, Kurt Volker served as the special representative of the U.S. State Department for Ukraine on a voluntary basis.
Previously, Trump appointed Florida investor Stephen Witkoff as a special envoy to the Middle East.
Last Monday, the press secretary of the elected head of state, Caroline Levitt, announced that Trump plans to bring Russia and Ukraine to the negotiating table on his very first day in office as President of the United States.
According to her, after winning the presidential election, Trump gained the opportunity to discuss a peace agreement between Moscow and Kyiv and intends to end the military conflict between them as soon as possible.
Trump's inauguration is scheduled for January 20, 2025.
Earlier, sources from The Washington Post reported that Trump called Vladimir Putin on November 7 and discussed the war in Ukraine. According to the publication's informants, the newly elected president warned Putin against any escalation of the conflict and reminded him of the significant U.S. military presence in Europe.
At the same time, Trump expressed interest in further negotiations and briefly touched on the issue of territories occupied by Russia. The Kremlin stated that "there was no conversation," and the media publication was described as "pure fabrication" and "simply false information."
Analysts note that given the Kremlin's reaction, the conversation evidently took place in an uncomfortable context for Putin.
