Ukraine aims to enhance the use of AI-based drones, according to Fedorov.

"Perhaps we will witness the first genuine swarm of drones," stated the minister.
Украина намерена увеличить использование БПЛА на основе ИИ, сообщил Федоров.

Ukraine plans to deploy tens of thousands of unmanned robotic ground vehicles next year for delivering ammunition and supplies to infantry on the front lines, as well as for evacuating injured soldiers.

This was reported by Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov in an interview with Reuters.

According to him, Ukraine has strike drones capable of flying up to 1800 km.

“I believe that next year there will be a significant increase in the percentage of autonomous drones with target designation. We might see the first real swarm of drones, although not on a mass scale. Initial steps will be taken,” emphasized Fedorov.

He also confirmed that Ukraine is working on drones to intercept long-range strike drones like the "Shahed," which Russia uses for its nighttime attacks on Ukrainian cities.

The minister stated that Ukraine is also employing dozens of domestic artificial intelligence systems, enabling its drones to reach targets on the battlefield without pilot involvement, allowing them to remain effective in areas protected by powerful obstacles.

“Artificial intelligence is used to some extent, but more important issues are communication and methods of launching (drones) for long-range strikes,” he added.

As Fedorov reported, this year Ukraine signed a contract for the procurement of 1.6 million drones, of which 1.3 million have been delivered, including affordable drones with a "first-person view" (FPV) equipped with cameras that allow for remote piloting to achieve targets.

According to him, ten companies are constantly competing in public procurements for the right to supply products based on artificial intelligence.

Background. Previously, Mind reported that Germany would supply Ukraine with AI drones known as mini-Taurus. Under the agreement between the Ministry of Defense and the company Helsing, 4000 such drones are to be delivered to Kyiv.
