The social media platform TikTok is resuming operations in the United States following a statement from newly elected President Donald Trump.
This was announced in the company's official statement on X.
“In agreement with our service providers, TikTok is in the process of resuming operations. We thank President Trump for providing the necessary clarity and assuring our service providers that they will not be penalized for delivering TikTok to over 170 million Americans and allowing more than 7 million small businesses to thrive,” TikTok stated. They added that “this is a strong stance for the First Amendment and against arbitrary censorship.”
Representatives from the platform reported that they will collaborate with Trump on a long-term solution that will keep TikTok in the U.S.
The day before, Trump stated that after his inauguration on January 20, he would postpone the ban on TikTok. If the platform is partially owned by the U.S., it would be able to continue its operations in the States, as proposed by the newly elected president.
Background. Earlier, Mind reported that on January 18, TikTok ceased operations in the United States. The app disappeared from the App Store and Google Play.
