Администрация Байдена собирается усилить санкции против российских нефтяных танкеров, сообщает Reuters.

The administration of U.S. President Joe Biden intends to implement new sanctions against Russia aimed at reducing its oil revenues by imposing restrictions on tankers transporting Russian oil.

As reported by Reuters.

According to the publication, the administration plans to impose sanctions on tankers carrying Russian oil sold at prices exceeding the Western-set cap of $60 per barrel.

"This will be a significant package," noted one anonymous source.

The Biden administration seeks to bolster support for Ukraine before newly-elected U.S. President Donald Trump takes office on January 20. It remains unclear what Trump’s policy will be regarding sanctions against Russia, Reuters added.

According to another source, the sanctions are likely to also target individuals associated with networks trading oil at prices above the established limit.

Russia is actively utilizing a so-called shadow fleet of old ships to circumvent sanctions. Many of these vessels are less safe and pose risks of oil spills, maritime experts note.
