The Biden administration is preparing a final major aid package for Ukraine ahead of Trump's inauguration.

At the same time, $4 billion of the funds allocated by Congress for Ukraine will remain unspent and will be transferred to the Trump administration.

The Biden administration is set to announce a significant new military aid package for Ukraine during Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin's visit to Germany on January 9.

Austin plans to meet in a "Ramstein" format with representatives from 50 countries that support Ukraine, as reported by two senior military officials to the Associated Press.

Officials did not disclose the exact amount of aid but referred to it as "substantial."

The upcoming aid package, which is expected to be announced on January 9, will build upon existing stockpiles with the intention of delivering most of the promised weapons to Ukraine before Trump takes office, one official stated.

The package will not include the remaining $4 billion from the congressionally approved funding for Ukraine. However, they noted that "more than a couple of billion dollars" will likely remain for the Trump administration should it choose to continue aid to Ukraine.

According to one official, Biden administration representatives involved in Ukraine policy have coordinated with Trump's transition team to address "all the issues we consider important."

Austin's trip to Ramstein Air Base will mark his final meeting with the coalition he formed in response to the Russian invasion in February 2022. Throughout the war, these countries have provided over $126 billion in military assistance, including ammunition, modern fighter jets, air defense systems, counter-drone technologies, and tanks. The United States has contributed $66 billion of this total.
