To complete the construction of the Khmelnytsky Nuclear Power Plant, at least 9,000 employees are needed, according to the head of Energoatom.

Для завершения строительства Хмельницкой АЭС необходимо как минимум 9000 сотрудников, - заявил глава «Энергоатома».

Projects for the completion and construction of new power units at the Khmelnytskyi NPP will require an additional 9,000 employees and new personnel recruitment.

According to reports from the National Nuclear Energy Generating Company of Ukraine "Energoatom," as stated by the company's head, Petro Kotin.

“Everything will depend on how quickly these large projects can be launched. The construction planned by the Khmelnytskyi NPP requires an additional 9,000 people. Therefore, we will certainly need to recruit more staff, and we are working on that,” he explained during the "Unified News" telethon at the end of last week.

Kotin noted that "Energoatom" has organized collaboration with higher education institutions in Ukraine to replenish the company’s workforce for the implementation of major projects, where future specialists are being trained. The company is also running programs with all polytechnic universities in Ukraine to fund the best teachers and students.

According to Kotin, the personnel of the nuclear energy generating company has decreased from 35,000 to about 30,000 since the beginning of the full-scale war. Of these, nearly 1,000 individuals have become military personnel and left to defend Ukraine, while there are also 3,000 who betrayed Ukraine, signed contracts with "Rosatom," and remained at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. Another 2,000 people have left Ukraine.

“Around 5,000 are currently in Ukraine, and they are all employed with us, in our other divisions. Therefore, we are retaining these parts of the team and also working on attracting new personnel,” Kotin stated.

As previously reported, "Energoatom" plans to complete the construction of power units No. 3 and No. 4 at the Khmelnytskyi NPP with Soviet technology VVER-1000 reactors, and also aims to implement projects for the construction of power units No. 5 and No. 6 with American Westinghouse reactors in the future.

Background. Earlier, Mind reported that bill No. 11146 regarding the placement, design, and construction of power units No. 3 and No. 4 at the Khmelnytskyi NPP is currently under consideration in the Verkhovna Rada. The government grandiosely refers to this document as the “construction of the largest nuclear power plant in Europe.” However, the draft law has already faced significant criticism and raises numerous unanswered questions.
