Hercules, Vilia, Daryna, and Kristina Celebrate Their 16th Birthday
On Saturday, January 25th, four lions at the Kyiv Zoo will turn 16 years old.
As noted by the Kyiv Zoo, this is quite an impressive age, considering that lions in the wild rarely live beyond 14 years.
Modern advancements in zoology, animal husbandry, and veterinary medicine help Hercules, Vilia, Daryna, and Kristina live long and quality lives.
“Our birthday lions enjoy a truly royal menu: beef, rabbit, and turkey. Each lion can consume up to 7 kg of meat daily! As a treat, these big cats love to snack on young shoots of cereal plants,” – shared the zoo staff.
At the Kyiv Zoo, the lions reside in a spacious enclosure with an enriched environment. Over the past 16 years, these African predators have adapted to the Ukrainian climate: they have even developed a warm undercoat and happily roam outside in winter when temperatures drop to -10°C.
“In honor of their 16th birthday, we will host a special enrichment event for our birthday lions on Saturday and Sunday, January 25-26, at 12:00 PM. Come for good vibes and positive emotions!” – invite the zoo staff.
