The mobile operators "Kyivstar" and Vodafone Ukraine will exchange frequencies in the 2100 MHz range to optimize their 4G networks.
The corresponding decision was made during a meeting of the National Commission for the State Regulation of Communications and Informatization (NCCIR).
The decision states that "Kyivstar" will transfer part of its frequency usage rights (license) to Vodafone Ukraine across 24 regions. Vodafone Ukraine, in turn, will transfer part of its frequencies to "Kyivstar" in 27 regions.
The frequency exchange will eliminate spectrum fragmentation, creating continuous blocks of frequencies. Additionally, subscribers will experience higher mobile internet speeds on the 4G network.
This is the first instance of rights transfer between operators in Ukraine, according to the NCCIR.
In November 2024, mobile operators won bids to obtain licenses for using radio frequencies in the 2100, 2300, and 2600 MHz ranges. At that time, the president of "Kyivstar," Oleksandr Komarov, noted that the frequency exchange would allow the company to form a continuous band in the 2100 MHz range for more efficient use of frequencies for 4G.
Background. Previously, Mind reported that in 2025, mobile operators will begin shutting down their 3G networks. This will not affect the ability to use basic services.
