The Prime Ministers of Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Norway, Poland, and Sweden have agreed to enhance support for Ukraine in the coming months to counter the full-scale war waged by Russia.
This decision was made during the summit in Harpsund on November 27, reports the official website of the Swedish government.
The Baltic and Northern European countries, along with Warsaw, have been the most resolute supporters of Kyiv since the onset of the full-scale war, providing military, financial, and humanitarian assistance to the country.
“Ukraine must overcome Russian aggression and achieve a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace,” states the joint declaration of the states.
“In the coming months, we will intensify our support, including for the Ukrainian defense industry, and we will invest in ensuring that Ukraine has as many munitions as possible.”
The countries participating in the summit referred to Russia as “the most significant and direct threat to our long-term security.”
According to the statement, the countries support the expansion of sanctions against Moscow and the strengthening of defense and resistance to both conventional and hybrid attacks.
“We will work together to deter, challenge, and counter aggressive and extremely confrontational actions by Russia, as well as to ensure its full international accountability for the crime of aggression,” the statement reads.
Background. It is worth noting that last week, the head of the Polish government Donald Tusk announced an extraordinary summit of Northern and Baltic countries to discuss assistance to Ukraine. The event aims to develop a unified position on supporting Ukraine and collective security, he emphasized.
