Meta introduces Community Notes across its social media platforms.

Meta внедряет Community Notes в своих социальных сетях.

Meta will eliminate fact-checkers on Facebook and Instagram – instead, the company will rely on users to report fake news and misleading information.

This was reported by The Independent.

According to the report, Community Notes will allow users to add context to posts that may be misleading. The feature will depend on user contributions with diverse perspectives to prevent bias.

The company believes these changes will provide more "freedom of expression" on Facebook and Instagram. It is noted that its efforts to combat false content on social media had "good intentions" that "went too far," resulting in some users being mistakenly banned from posting.

The publication states that Meta plans to focus on serious violations, such as terrorism, child sexual exploitation, and fraud, while relying more on user complaints for less serious infractions.

In addition, the company is changing its approach to political content on its platforms. Since 2021, the company has reduced the visibility of posts related to elections, politics, and social issues based on user feedback. However, Meta now considers this a "rather simplistic approach" and has stated that it will begin to restore this content to Facebook and Instagram.

Background. Previously, Mind reported that Ireland fined Meta over data leaks from Facebook for more than 250 million euros. The company is expected to challenge this decision.
