Belarus will receive a medium-range ballistic missile "Oreshnik" from Russia "any day now."
This was stated by the self-proclaimed president of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, at a press conference in Minsk, as reported by TAAS.
Lukashenko mentioned that he plans to position the complex closer to Smolensk.
"Over there, closer to Smolensk. That's my dream. Then we'll see. A certain distance is necessary. It's not good when your targets are too close. But when they are too far, they may carry less payload. So I’m considering somewhere near Russia. Moreover, it’s a joint weapon. But I’m not saying it will be right under Smolensk. I’m just thinking about it now,” he noted, according to the BELTA agency.
In the opinion of the self-proclaimed president of Belarus, one complex will be sufficient to protect the entire country.
Additionally, Lukashenko has decided that only Belarusian peacekeepers can ensure normal relations between the "brothers" – Ukraine and Russia, but Minsk does not intend to send them to the front line, the self-proclaimed president of Belarus stated.
"If it’s for the sake of trust and justice – then they have nothing but the Belarusian army. This doesn’t mean I will send my army as peacekeepers, no. But for it to be as agreed, it’s only Belarusian, there are no others. All the others will either be pulling to the West or to the East. But just so you understand, I’m not eager to go there, and most likely, I’m not planning to send my people there as peacekeepers today. I’m not planning to. Only Belarusians can ensure normal relations between the middle and older brothers,” Lukashenko said.
He also added that such a decision would allegedly not be agreed upon by either Kyiv or the West.
