On the night and morning of November 17, Russian forces launched a massive combined strike on Ukraine's energy sector using various types of missiles from air, ground, and sea platforms, as well as strike drones of the "Shahed" type. In total, the enemy fired 120 missiles and 90 drones.

Ukrainian air defense operated in 19 regions. As of 12:00, it is known that 144 aerial targets were shot down – 102 missiles and 42 drones:
41 enemy drones were lost in various regions of Ukraine, while two headed towards Russia and temporarily occupied territories.
It is noted that the Russians involved seven strategic bombers Tu-160 and 16 Tu-95MS, two long-range bombers Tu-22M3, five fighter-bombers Su-34, four fighters Su-27, ten fighters MiG-31K, and four ships carrying cruise missiles in the air assault.
