The President of Georgia, Salome Zourabichvili, whose authority continues to be recognized by the opposition in the country, intends to attend the inauguration of the elected President of the United States, Donald Trump.

She announced this during her first briefing in her new office, as reported by Radio Liberty.

According to Zourabichvili, she will be going there at the invitation of Congressman Joe Wilson.

Zourabichvili also stated that she plans to hold high-level meetings in the U.S. and continues to engage with European partners who do not recognize the new parliament, government, and president of Georgia.

“Our state is today effectively on the brink of collapse, as all its institutions and the Constitution no longer exist. This Constitution has been trampled upon. Those in power today disregard the Constitution, human rights, and the will of the people,” the president said.

The new office of Zourabichvili opened in the center of Tbilisi. During the briefing, behind her, in addition to the flags of Georgia and the European Union, was the presidential standard.

“I am the president and will remain the president,” she declared during the meeting.

On December 29, a ceremony was held in the Parliament of Georgia for the inauguration of the new president, Mikheil Kavelashvili, who was elected by the electoral college on December 14.

The Georgian opposition does not recognize him as president amid widespread claims that the recent parliamentary elections in the country were neither free nor fair.

During the inauguration, protesters gathered near the presidential palace, opposing the election results. President Salome Zourabichvili addressed them, stating that she was leaving the residence but taking legitimacy with her.

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, stated that he would attend Donald Trump's inauguration only if he receives an invitation.

In an interview with American podcaster Lex Friedman, he mentioned that he would like to be present in Washington on that day, but he would not make the visit without a direct invitation from the U.S. President.
