Since the onset of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the Russian army has launched over 10,000 rockets of various types and more than 13,000 drones at its territory.
According to calculations by Radio Liberty, the total cost of munitions that Russia has used to devastate the neighboring country has exceeded $18 billion.
These estimates are based on open data and expert opinions. However, as the publication emphasizes, a significant portion of information regarding the attacks is classified, which could indicate that the actual expenses on missile and drone strikes are even higher.
The publication has compiled a table listing all types of missiles launched at Ukraine, along with their costs and quantities:
Hypersonic missiles "Kinzhal" – 134 units, total cost $1.34 billion;
Cruise missiles "Kalibr" – 927 units, total cost $927 million;
Cruise missiles X-101 – 2057 units, total cost $2.46 billion;
Cruise missiles X-22 – 381 units, total cost $114.3 million;
Anti-ship missiles "Oniks" – 211 units, total cost – $633 million;
Cruise missiles "Iskander" – 215 units, total cost – $215 million;
Ballistic missiles "Iskander" – 1443 units, total cost – $2.9 billion;
Anti-ship missiles X-35 – 17 units, total cost – $5.3 million;
Hypersonic missiles "Tsirkon" – 7 units, total cost – $105 million;
Missiles from the "Tochka-U" system – 68 units, total cost – $20.4 million;
Missiles S-300, S-400 – 3093 units, total cost – $4.2 billion;
Guided aviation missiles – 1713 units, total cost – $856 million;
Other unspecified type missiles – $76 units.
Strike UAVs – 13,253 units, total cost – $3.84 billion.
As noted by the publication, some of these types of weaponry, such as the X-22 missiles, were produced during the Soviet era and therefore cost the state budget virtually nothing. However, Russia still has the capability to manufacture "Kinzhal," "Oniks," "Iskander," "Kalibr," as well as strike UAVs.
According to Major General Vadym Skibitsky, a representative of the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense, as of January 2024, Russia was producing about 115–130 strategic missiles and 100–115 operational-tactical class missiles per month.
