The Ukrainian project DeepState, in its latest update of the frontline map, reports nearly complete occupation of the village of Vremivka by Russian forces, which borders the central part of Velyka Novosilka from the west.
From the east and south, Russian troops have been assaulting Velyka Novosilka, a key point of Ukrainian defense in the southwestern part of Donetsk Oblast, for several weeks now.
According to the DeepState map, the distance between their positions from the west and east is now only about 2 km.
The Vremivka area was known as the Vremivka bulge, which remained under the control of the Armed Forces of Ukraine after an unsuccessful offensive by the Ukrainian army in the summer of 2023. This bulge has now been completely eliminated by Russian forces.
Ukrainian military blogger Bohdan Miroshnykov suggests that after losing Velyka Novosilka, Ukrainian units may have to retreat to the line of Burlatske-Dniproenerhiya-Rozliv – about 8 km north of Velyka Novosilka.
In addition to the advancement in Vremivka, DeepState also reports Russian progress towards Pokrovsk from the southwest, from the recently captured Pishchane, as well as from Zverove and Kotlyna, where the Russian army has recently cut the Dnipro-Pokrovsk railway.
Background. As reported earlier, Russian forces have cut the road to Pokrovsk and are attempting to encircle the city. Furthermore, it is believed that the Russians will try to seize the southeastern part of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, according to ISW.
