Russian soldiers executed 5 defenders of Ukraine on October 2, 2024, during an assault on the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine near the city of Vuhledar.
Reportedly, the press service of the Office of the Attorney General has stated this.
“According to operational data, on October 2, 2024, servicemen of the Russian Federation launched an attack on the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine near Vuhledar. During the offensive, the occupiers captured 5 unarmed Ukrainian defenders. One of them was killed in a wooded area, while the other four were taken at gunpoint onto the road, where they were also shot,” the statement reads.
It is noted that under the procedural guidance of the Donetsk Regional Prosecutor's Office, a pre-trial investigation has been initiated into the criminal proceedings regarding the commission of a war crime that resulted in loss of life.
The killing of prisoners of war is emphasized as a serious violation of the Geneva Conventions and qualifies as a grave international crime.
“Immediate investigative and search actions are underway to establish all the circumstances of the event,” the OGP highlighted.
