Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson announced that his country will assist in the investigation of the latest damage to an underwater cable in the Baltic Sea.

He wrote this on the social media platform X.

Kristersson informed that he is in close contact with his Latvian counterpart Evika Silina, as there is information indicating that at least one data transmission cable between Sweden and Latvia has been damaged in the Baltic Sea. The cable belongs to a Latvian company.

“Sweden, Latvia, and NATO are closely cooperating on this matter. Sweden will contribute the appropriate forces and resources to the investigation of the incident,” Kristersson stated.

Recall that on January 26, the underwater fiber optic cable of the Latvian State Radio and Television Center, which runs through the Baltic Sea, suffered damage. Silina convened the responsible ministers and agency heads in connection with this incident.

Background. Previously, Mind reported that Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo announced damage to an underwater electrical cable connecting Finland and Estonia. The break occurred on December 25 and, as Orpo noted, did not affect Finland's electricity supply.
