Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha welcomed his Icelandic counterpart, Þórdís Kolbrún Reykfjörð Gylfadóttir, in Kyiv. This marks her first official visit to Ukraine, as reported by the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on January 7.

During their discussions, the ministers emphasized Iceland's unwavering support for Ukraine, particularly in achieving a just and lasting peace. They also agreed on the necessity of further political and economic isolation of Russia and increasing the cost of its aggression.

Sybiha expressed gratitude for the diverse support provided by Iceland, including efforts in demining, logistics, military training, and initiatives for expedited arms procurement.

"We are especially thankful for Iceland's recent contribution of over 2 million euros towards the production of Ukrainian weapons using the 'Danish model.' We look forward to increased Icelandic investments in the Ukrainian defense industry," noted Sybiha.

The Ukrainian minister also highlighted Iceland's efforts to assist injured Ukrainian soldiers with prosthetics, announcing plans to expand this program next year to aid even more servicemen in their recovery.

Additionally, he thanked Iceland for its support of the energy sector during the war.

Ms. Þórdís confirmed Iceland's commitment to assist Ukraine, particularly through further funding of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's humanitarian initiative "Grain from Ukraine," which supplies Ukrainian food to countries in need, such as Syria.
