In France, another court hearing took place regarding the founder of the Telegram messenger, Pavel Durov, and the suspicions raised against him.

Durov promised French investigating judges to enhance content moderation on the messenger, as reported by France Info referencing the transcript of the session held on December 6, 2024.

During the session, Durov emphasized that the platform deletes between 15 to 20 million accounts every month for violating laws.

He assures that over the past six months, the messenger has actively collaborated with law enforcement agencies and provided data on 10,000 users to authorities in various countries.

At the same time, Durov noted that the issue of combating illegal content pertains not only to Telegram but also to other similar services.

The French judicial authorities, for their part, reported that from 2017 to 2024, around 2,000 criminal cases were opened related to crimes committed using Telegram.

Additionally, according to investigators, despite attempts at moderation, the platform has recently been used even more actively for illegal purposes.

Durov acknowledged that such actions by individual users harm both the reputation and operations of Telegram.

The French authorities accuse Durov of insufficient moderation of the platform and evading cooperation with law enforcement, making him an accomplice in crimes such as the distribution of child pornography, drug trafficking, fraud, and other offenses via the messenger.

Recall that on August 24, Durov was detained in Paris, but four days later, he was released on a €5 million bail with the condition of mandatory appearances at the police station twice a week. Later, it became known that the businessman began cooperating with French law enforcement.
