The newly elected President of the United States, Donald Trump, is considering Keith Kellogg as a candidate for his special envoy for conflict resolution in Ukraine.

This was reported by Reuters citing three anonymous sources.

Kellogg is a retired lieutenant general who served in Trump's administration during his first term (2017–2021) as the head of the National Security Council staff and as national security advisor to then-Vice President Mike Pence.

In June, it was reported that Kellogg proposed freezing the conflict along the current line of contact and compelling Moscow and Kyiv to come to the negotiating table.

The 80-year-old Kellogg participated in the Vietnam War as a Special Forces officer. He also served as the chief of staff for the 82nd Airborne Division during Operation Desert Storm from 1990 to 1991. The general retired from the army in 2003.

According to media reports, Kellogg is one of several potential candidates for the role of special envoy regarding Ukraine.

In particular, those close to Trump have mentioned that one of the president-elect's lawyers, Boris Epstein, who is of Russian descent, requested his appointment for this role.

Transition administration spokesperson Caroline Levitt declined to comment on Kellogg's candidacy, emphasizing that all appointments will be announced once decisions are made.

It was also reported that Trump plans to appoint former Director of National Intelligence Grenell as special envoy for Ukraine – Grenell proposes creating "autonomous zones" in Ukraine and opposes its NATO membership.
