The elected President of the United States, Donald Trump, announced that his team has begun preparations for a meeting with Putin to discuss options for ending the war in Ukraine.

“He wants to meet, and we will arrange it. We must put an end to this war. It’s a bloody mess,” Trump stated before a meeting with Republican governors at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida.

Trump did not specify where he might hold talks with Putin, urging everyone to wait for details until January 20, when he will officially assume the presidency of the United States.

The day before, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that if Trump intends to contact Putin after the inauguration, it would be welcomed in Moscow. At the same time, Peskov noted that no requests for such a meeting had been received from the American side yet.

Putin, during a live call on December 19, expressed his readiness to negotiate with Trump at any time, but added, “I don’t know when we will meet. Because he hasn’t said anything about it. I haven’t spoken to him at all for over four years.”

Previously, Trump’s special envoy for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, stated that the elected president wants to end the war “as soon as possible,” but does not intend to make concessions to Putin during the conflict resolution process.

In Trump’s administration, they “plan to create conditions for the president” so that he can talk with both Zelensky and Putin, Kellogg noted.

He also added that Trump’s administration will try to find a resolution to the conflict within 100 days of the inauguration.
