The capital is experiencing abnormally warm winter weather

In the Dnipro, Obolon, and Pechersk districts, cherry blossoms have begun to bloom due to the unusual warmth of recent days, which is a concerning signal.

This was reported on social media by the head of the Environmental Protection and Climate Change Adaptation Department of the Kyiv City State Administration, Oleksandr Voznyi.

“Blooming ‘out of season’ harms plants for several reasons: it depletes resources, there is a risk of frost damage, a lack of pollinating insects during the winter, disruption of the natural cycle, and a decrease in disease resistance,” Voznyi wrote.

According to him, cherry trees typically bloom in April, and such changes in the blooming period are linked to the abnormally warm winter caused by global climate change. This year's early blooming was preceded by temperature records recorded in Kyiv: on January 26 and 27, the air temperature reached levels that, according to long-term meteorological observations, correspond to the end of March.

It is worth noting that climatologists recorded the first temperature records of 2025 in Kyiv.
