In Norway, 88.9% of new cars sold in 2024 were electric vehicles.
This was reported by Reuters, citing data from the Norwegian Road Federation (OFV).
In 2023, this figure was 82.4%.
The most popular electric vehicle brands in Norway were Tesla, Volkswagen, and Toyota. Chinese electric vehicles accounted for 10% of sales.
"Norway will be the first country in the world where cars with gasoline and diesel engines will effectively be phased out from the new car market," commented Kristina Bu, head of the Norwegian Electric Vehicle Association.
Norway has a consistent policy aimed at reducing gasoline and diesel cars by imposing high taxes on them. In contrast, electric vehicles benefit from tax exemptions and incentives.
By the end of 2024, there were already more electric vehicles on the roads of the country than gasoline cars. It is expected that in a few years, the share of electric vehicles will increase from the current 28% of all cars in the country to 50%.
Background. Earlier, Mind reported that Norway, which has its own significant reserves of oil and gas, is confidently moving towards being the first in the world to completely ban the sale of internal combustion engine vehicles by 2025.
