Shmyhal has been summoned to the Rada due to the absence of a bill on demobilization.

The demobilization law was supposed to be initiated by the government, but it has not done so yet.
Шмигаль был вызван в Верховную Раду из-за отсутствия законопроекта о демобилизации.

Members of Parliament have summoned Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal to a session of the Verkhovna Rada.

This was reported by MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak.

“Shmyhal has been called to the Rada. The reason is the demobilization law, which the government was supposed to initiate according to the mobilization law,” the message states.

The initiative was supported by 158 MPs.

At the same time, outside the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, relatives of servicemen held another protest demanding clear service timelines, writes “Suspilne”.

The chief specialist of the social work department of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, Stanislav Boychuk, addressed the protesters. He stated that the demobilization law will not be adopted for now, as there is a shortage of personnel on the front lines.

“Practically all units located at the line of combat engagement are understaffed... We must ensure the protection of the state,” said Stanislav Boychuk.

According to the representative of the General Staff, soldiers currently fighting on the front lines will be offered an alternative – 90 days of leave. Relevant changes to the legislation are planned.

After the protest action outside the General Staff, people headed to the Verkhovna Rada. In protest against the failure to adopt the demobilization law, demonstrators blocked a road in the government quarter leading to the parliament building. People are chanting: “Where is the promised law?! The army is not slavery!”, reports “Suspilne”.

Recall that the mobilization law in Ukraine came into effect on May 18, 2024. However, provisions regarding the demobilization of servicemen after 36 months of service and the rotation of servicemen were removed. The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Oleksandr Syrskyi, requested that this issue be regulated in a separate legislative proposal.

Background. Earlier, Mind reported that in April, deputies supported the mobilization law – all provisions regarding demobilization and rotation of servicemen were excluded from the draft law. After the vote in the Rada, Ministry of Defense spokesperson Dmytro Lazutkin announced that the ministry, along with the General Staff, is working on a draft law on demobilization – it will be ready sooner than by the end of 2024.
