The U.S. Department of Justice has dismissed several attorneys involved in the investigation against Donald Trump.

According to reports from NBC News.

The employees were part of the team led by Special Prosecutor Jack Smith. They conducted investigations that led to subsequently dropped charges against Trump regarding mishandling classified documents and attempts to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election prior to the events of January 6 at the U.S. Capitol.

“Today, Acting Attorney General James McHenry terminated several officials at the Department of Justice who played a significant role in the prosecution of President Trump,” a representative of the Department of Justice told NBC News.

“Given their actions, the Acting Attorney General does not trust these officials to carry out the tasks necessary to implement the President's agenda. This decision aligns with the mission to stop the use of government as a political weapon,” he added.

Among those dismissed, according to sources from NBC News, were prosecutors Molly Gaston, J.P. Cooney, Ann McNamara, and Mary Dorman.

Smith resigned this month ahead of Trump’s inauguration. Trump’s re-election effectively concluded federal criminal cases against him due to a longstanding policy of the Department of Justice that prohibits prosecuting sitting presidents.
