The forest beauties will help other plants survive the summer heat
The municipal services urge Kyiv residents not to throw away their Christmas trees after the New Year holidays, but to use the designated disposal points for coniferous trees.
This has been reported by the Department of Environmental Protection and Climate Change Adaptation of the Kyiv City State Administration.
“From January 2 to January 31, 78 collection points for Christmas trees will operate in Kyiv – a few in each district of the capital. This is nearly double the number from last season. All collected fir trees and pines will be sent for ecological disposal for further use in the city’s green economy,” the Kyiv City State Administration noted.
As the municipal workers pointed out, the Christmas trees and pines collected from the points will be sent for ecological disposal, where they will be shredded into mulch and later used for mulching the holes of young trees to retain soil moisture during the summer and protect plant roots from freezing in the cold season.
It is noteworthy that last season, after the New Year holidays, Kyiv residents returned almost 7,000 Christmas trees and pines to the disposal points.
Reminder, in the capital, 140 official sales locations for Christmas trees and pines operated since December 5.
