The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that during negotiations with Western partners, Ukraine is discussing the topic of mobilization and lowering the mobilization age.
Spokesperson for the MFA, Georgiy Tykhyy, stated this at a briefing, reports European Pravda.
At the same time, the spokesperson refuted that the issue of lowering the mobilization age "is a point of tension or has been discussed negatively or critically".
"I want to emphasize that it is usually Ukraine that initiates such discussions. In our negotiations, we inform our partners about the dynamics of mobilization that we are experiencing. This is part of the discussion just like other topics such as arms provision, strategy, defense, sanctions, deterrence, and so on," he explained.
Tykhyy noted that Ukraine lacks weapons and equipment for those already mobilized and urged partners to provide more. "When we read sources claiming that Ukraine should mobilize more, and that this is the main problem – we have a different perspective. In our view, the announced aid, weapons, and equipment should arrive in Ukraine faster," Tykhyy emphasized.
Background. Earlier, Mind reported that the Biden administration insists on lowering the conscription age in Ukraine from 25 to 18. This would allow for an expansion of the mobilization reserve, an anonymous source in the White House told journalists.
