Ukraine has officially become a full participant in the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court.

Now, it is a full-fledged member state of the international treaty and possesses all the rights and obligations assigned to participating states.
Украина стала полноценным участником Римского статута Международного уголовного суда.

Ukraine has become the 125th state to join the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC) and will have the same rights as other states starting January 1, 2025, thus becoming a full member of the ICC, which includes participating in elections, proposing amendments, and more.

This was reported by a correspondent from "Ukrinform" in The Hague.

In the court building, among the flags of the member states of the ICC, the blue and yellow Ukrainian flag has also been raised.

“Ukraine will officially become the 125th state party to the International Criminal Court on January 1, 2025. This means that it is now a full member of this international treaty and has all the rights and obligations assigned to member states,” said ICC spokesman Fadi el-Abdallah in a comment to "Ukrinform."

He noted that the most important of these rights is the ability to vote on budget approvals, amendments to the Rome Statute, and the election of judges, the future prosecutor, and their deputies, which helps shape the future of international criminal law to some extent.

He expressed hope that Ukraine would inspire other states by its example.

“We hope that this new ratification will also open the door for others to follow Ukraine's example, which is a sign of trust in the International Criminal Court. We hope that others will also perceive this as a signal, support it, and participate in bringing us closer to the dream of the universality of the Rome Statute, where all states will unite in the global fight against impunity and advocate for building a fairer world,” said the spokesman.

Background. Earlier, Mind reported that the Verkhovna Rada supported the ratification of the Rome Statute. A total of 281 deputies voted in favor. To date, 124 states have ratified the Rome Statute of the ICC. Among those that have neither signed nor ratified the statute are China, India, Belarus, Turkey, and Kazakhstan.
