During the counting of voter ballots in California's 13th district, Democratic Party candidate Adam Gray has taken the lead. He is ahead of his Republican opponent John Duarte by less than two hundred votes after 99% of the ballots have been counted.
Until recently, Duarte was the frontrunner in the election race for this district.
The potential victory of Democrat Gray could significantly alter the balance of power in the U.S. Congress, claims MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak, who is monitoring the elections in the U.S.
If the Democrat wins, "it will mean that the Republicans will have only 220 elected members in the House of Representatives. Minus three who are going (to work) in the administration. Thus, by April (when the Heitz district holds its special election) next year, their (Republicans') majority will only be 217," Zheleznyak writes in his Telegram channel.
He suggests that this will complicate decision-making in Congress, as Republicans will not hold an absolute majority and will thus need to negotiate with Democrats.
"This means that all decisions in the first 100 days of Trump will have to be made with full consensus. Or they will have to turn to the Democrats for votes," the MP notes.
Background. Meanwhile, it has become known that Biden is requesting an additional $24 billion from Congress for aid to Ukraine and for replenishing American stockpiles. If approved, this funding will go to the Pentagon for supplying weapons to Ukraine and replenishing the stocks of American weapons sent to Kyiv.
