A new tourniquet has been introduced in Ukraine to effectively stop pelvic bleeding.

Previously, such a tourniquet could only be found abroad.
В Украине появился жгут для остановки тазовых кровотеч.

The largest Ukrainian manufacturer of tourniquets, "SICH Ukraine," has officially started supplying abdominal tourniquets to Ukraine – devices designed to stop pelvic bleeding.

Mind was informed about this by the company's press service.

The SICH-AAJT-S, developed by the American company Compression Works, is a tourniquet used for gunshot wounds to the abdomen. It compresses the abdominal cavity to reduce blood loss. Subsequently, a special cuff applies pressure to the abdominal aorta, halting the bleeding. This gives the injured individual a chance to be transported to a hospital for necessary medical care. It can also be utilized as a knot tourniquet.

The abdominal tourniquet is beneficial in the following scenarios:

  • in cases of bleeding in the groin, pelvic, or axillary areas: due to targeted compression on major vessels, it helps control massive bleeding, which is critical for the victim's survival;
  • for stabilizing pelvic fractures: securing pelvic bones prevents further damage to internal organs and vessels, while also reducing the risk of hemorrhagic shock;
  • in instances of traumatic high amputations: when a standard tourniquet cannot be applied due to anatomical features, the knot tourniquet provides compression and stops the bleeding.

The tourniquet is primarily aimed at emergency medical responders, combat medics, and rescue services. At the same time, the SICH-AAJT-S can save lives not only on the battlefield but also during fires or road accidents. Civilians can use it only after undergoing specialized training.

This type of tourniquet is utilized in the armies of NATO countries, and Ukrainians could previously order it from abroad. Now, it can be obtained officially without waiting for months for delivery.

"Based on international practice, there should be at least three of these tourniquets per platoon, meaning one for each squad. If necessary, the company, together with its American partners, is ready to fulfill requests for up to 5,000 units," noted "SICH Ukraine."
