Since the onset of the full-scale invasion, Ukraine has managed to return 3,767 of its citizens from Russian captivity. Among them, 168 are civilians, while the rest are military personnel.
During a briefing, Human Rights Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada, Dmytro Lubinets, provided this information.
According to the ombudsman, military captives were returned solely through the exchange process, and he added that, according to official data, today "tens of thousands of Ukrainian citizens are held captive by Russia." This includes both military and civilians.
Recall that on October 18, 95 Ukrainian soldiers returned home from Russian captivity, including defenders of "Azovstal" and those serving life sentences. On the same day, Ukraine retrieved the bodies of 501 fallen defenders.
Background. Earlier, Mind reported that the government mandated the Coordination Headquarters to inform the public and relatives weekly about the status of negotiations concerning military and civilian captives.
