Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić stated in his address to the nation that he knows Vladimir Putin well and can confidently say that if all other options are exhausted, he will not hesitate to use nuclear weapons.
Discussing Russia's war against Ukraine, Vučić claims that the threat of nuclear conflict has never been greater.
“Today marks the thousandth day of war in Ukraine. Serbia made its conclusions five to six days after the war began, which the Russians refer to as a special military operation, and I take pride in the fact that despite all the pressure, we have managed to endure a thousand days without any changes in our own stance. I believe we (Serbia) have had the best, most serious, and responsible policy. It is important for us to talk about peace and a ceasefire because this (war) leads us only to a global catastrophe,” Vučić said.
“When you have 10 steps to catastrophe, we have already taken 9 steps. Today, the Bryansk region was shelled with missiles, and strikes with Russian munitions will continue. Each subsequent step brings us closer to nuclear conflict,” Vučić stated.
The Serbian president asserted that each side of the conflict will not hesitate to use all the tools available to them.
“I know them very well. And while in the West, you might hear that Putin is playing a game and threatening, while actually being afraid, I can tell you that very few know President Putin as well as I do. I do not criticize myself nor boast about it; this is how the relations between Russia and Serbia are formed. Those who think otherwise have never seen President Putin in their life,” Vučić said, adding:
“Yes, they say he is ‘threatening with an empty gun.’ If the security of Moscow and its troops is at risk, if there is no way out, I can tell you in advance, he will not hesitate for an hour,” he said.
Background. Recall that the day before, in his emergency address, Vladimir Putin stated that the Russian army used the latest ballistic missile “Oreshnik” for strikes on Ukraine in response to the use of Western long-range weapons on Russian territory. According to him, the combat use of the new missile was a response to Kyiv’s use of American and British long-range weaponry.
