Zelensky pledged to supply coal to the President of Moldova amid the energy crisis in Transnistria.

This crisis is an attempt by Russia to manipulate energy resources against the government in Moldova, stated Zelensky.
Зеленский пообещал президенту Молдовы поставлять уголь в связи с энергетическим кризисом в Приднестровье.

Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky promised Moldova's President Maia Sandu to supply coal to address the energy crisis in Transnistria and protect the affected population.

As reported by the press service of the Moldovan president, on January 8, the leaders held a phone conversation where they "discussed the humanitarian situation in the Transnistrian region" and agreed to jointly seek solutions to the energy crisis in Transnistria.

The cessation of natural gas supplies by the Russian company Gazprom, in violation of contractual obligations, has led to a severe crisis. Thousands of people are facing a lack of heating, electricity, and in some cases, drinking water amid cold weather and economic difficulties, according to the report.

In his evening address, Zelensky confirmed the phone conversation with Sandu. He urged to "help Moldova navigate the challenging period of energy challenges and prevent Moscow from inciting social tension."

"The energy situation in Moldova, particularly on the left bank of the Dniester, is an attempt by Russia to manipulate energy resources against the authorities in Moldova," Zelensky stated.

He expressed Ukraine's readiness to assist Moldova, particularly with coal supplies.

"It is crucial to maintain stability, provide all people in Moldova with conditions for a peaceful life and work for their country, to overcome poverty, and for our joint movement towards the European Union," said the President of Ukraine.

Background. The energy crisis in Transnistria, triggered by Russia's cessation of gas supplies, is part of Russia's plan to manipulate and spread propaganda, stated Moldovan government spokesperson Daniel Voda on January 6.

Gazprom halted gas supplies to Moldova, citing allegedly unpaid debts by Moldovagaz. Moldovan officials denied these claims, noting that an international audit could not confirm the existence of debts.
