Vladimir Zelensky has signed a decree appointing Olga Reshetylova (Kobylynska) as the President's Commissioner for the Protection of the Rights of Servicemen and the Families of Our Soldiers.

This was reported by the President himself.

“Olga is a well-known, experienced, and effective Ukrainian human rights activist. She has already accomplished a lot for the development of our state institutions and for supporting Ukrainians,” – wrote Zelensky.

According to him, the main task now is to prepare a draft law on a military ombudsman and all the necessary systemic foundations for the operation of this institution. “Our soldiers must receive effective tools to protect their rights, and there must be a real modernization of personnel management in the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” – noted the President.

Olga Reshetylova is a journalist and human rights activist. In 2014, she co-founded the charity fund “Come Back Alive.” In the fund, she was responsible for coordinating the fund's work with law enforcement agencies and directly with the forces and means of the anti-terrorist operation in eastern Ukraine.

She also worked as a project manager at the Ukrainian Helsinki Human Rights Union (UHHRU). Currently, she leads the Media Initiative for Human Rights. The organization investigates war crimes: abductions, child deportation, hostage-taking, improper detention of prisoners of war, as well as monitoring court proceedings related to the war and researching the quasi-legal system in temporarily occupied territories.

Zelensky announced the appointment of a military ombudsman on December 29. “There was a request from our military – and this is an objective need – for the establishment of a special institution of a military ombudsman,” – the President reported. He added that the commissioner would begin their duties in the new year.
