Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky gave an interview to Ukrainian television, where he shared his expectations related to President Donald Trump, who will officially take office on January 20.
“Trump told me over the phone when we spoke that one of the first visits I will be waiting for is yours. He said this to me because he mentioned that my priority is to end the war, and I will be doing that. So, I believe that yes, after the inauguration, we will have a meeting, and I think we will start working, already understanding the entire plan,” said the Ukrainian president, as quoted by “Interfax-Ukraine.”
He praised the personal qualities of the elected U.S. president: “Trump can be decisive. I think for us, that’s the most important thing, that he, his qualities, are like that. He can be decisive in this war. He can really help us stop Putin.”
Discussing Trump’s reputation as an unpredictable person and politician, the President of Ukraine expressed his hope that “the unpredictability of President Trump would be directed primarily at the Russian Federation.”
According to Zelensky, the Ukrainian leadership has established contacts with many people in Trump’s circle.
“There have already been meetings with the head of my office [Andriy Yermak]. There are contacts with the Minister of Foreign Affairs. Separately, there are contacts with our Minister of Defense,” he assured.
Background. Recall that the Washington Post, after speaking with Ukrainian military personnel, reported that they are hopeful for Trump and a ceasefire in 2025, as they are tired and exhausted.
