Israel accuses Hamas of violating the ceasefire agreement due to the group's failure to provide information regarding the status of hostages that are to be released soon.
According to The Times of Israel, this information was reported.
The publication states that on Saturday evening, Hamas did not provide Israel with information about the status of the hostages intended for release in the coming weeks, thus breaching the ceasefire and hostage-taking agreements in Gaza.
Furthermore, Israel claimed that Hamas also violated the terms of the agreement by not releasing civilian hostage Arbel Yehud along with four female soldiers on Saturday, January 25.
Israel announced that it would not allow the previously planned return of displaced Palestinians to northern Gaza until Yehud is freed.
This decision also implies that the IDF will not withdraw troops from part of the Netzarim corridor as was scheduled for Sunday. The corridor divides the Gaza Strip from east to west and separates its northern and southern regions, as reported by The Times of Israel.
According to the terms of the agreement, Hamas was supposed to inform Israel by the end of Saturday about which of the remaining 26 hostages on the list fall under the so-called “humanitarian” category – women, children, elderly individuals, and living persons. At the same time, Hamas did not meet the deadline, and Israeli officials confirmed that Jerusalem had not received updated information.
A White House national security representative stated on Saturday to the publication that the Trump administration “continues to insist on the release of Arbel Yehud.”
Background. Earlier, Mind reported that Israel confirmed the names of four Israeli female hostages that Hamas is to release on Saturday after 477 days of captivity during the second exchange under the ceasefire agreement with the terrorist group.
