The newly elected President of the United States, Donald Trump, has decided to appoint Pete Hegseth, a prominent Republican television host from Fox News and a veteran of the American National Guard, as the Secretary of Defense.

According to Reuters.

“Pete is tough, smart, and genuinely believes in the motto ‘America First.’ With Pete at the helm, America’s enemies should be on alert – our military will be great again, and America will never back down,” Trump stated in a post.

Hegseth is a veteran of the U.S. National Guard, having served in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Guantanamo (Cuba). He is known for his conservative views. In 2017, Hegseth was considered a potential candidate for the position of Secretary of Veterans Affairs in Trump’s then-administration.

Hegseth supports active U.S. resistance against China and Iran; however, he has not expressed a definitive stance regarding Russia. On Ukraine, Pete Hegseth holds a relatively moderate position. He has acknowledged President Volodymyr Zelensky’s understanding of defending his country but criticized Biden for aiding Ukraine, pointing out that he “is spending billions on Ukraine while ignoring problems at home.”

According to him, “leftism in the U.S.” is a “more pressing issue” than Russian aggression against Ukraine. He also stated that he does not want his children to “fight in Donbas” due to an “unclear end goal.”

Background. Earlier, Mind reported that Marco Rubio will be the new Secretary of State – a proponent of a “peace deal” with Russia. He was one of the 15 Republican senators who voted against the $60 billion aid package for Ukraine.
